The Healthy Networker Series – Introduction


WOW as I have surveyed my extensive notes and reviewed the key sites on the Internet I realized there are a lot of topics that could be considered “basic” network marketing. I think I’ve overwhelmed myself. LOL. Start Here!

So what have I come up with that appears to be basic? Let’s see here…
Setting up you network marketing business, developing your business, plan for expansion, use your products and/or services (ALL of them), keep a list of people – hot, warm and cool, develop a system to generate people to talk to, perfect your presentation, calling them back, repeat the process, helping them get started, talk to new people everyday, train your people to duplicate the system, focus your energies and take massive action, daily self development, attending your company meeting, mastermind with leaders, never giving up, learn to be a story teller, old school vs. new school, the Internet etc. etc. and ETC!

OK, don’t know how long this series is going to be, but it should keep us both on our toes for some time to come.

A Healthy Networker – Think for Yourself

How much training “stuff” have you studied? Taken in? What was it I saw the other day? SOS or was it NBT? Shiny Object Syndrome or Next Best Thing? How many “guru’s” have you chosen to follow? Are you searching for the next best thing, the right answer?

May I tell you a story from a couple of years ago? Is this your guru?

I was tootling along in my network marketing business looking for ways to speak to more people about my products and my opportunity. Sound familiar? In my searching on the Internet I came across an ebook that looked interesting. Registered and downloaded.

I devoured the ebook in one sitting and started to read it again. It was a breath of fresh air. It had all the elements that had been missing in my marketing approach. I felt like I was on the verge of being saved.

A Healthy Networker Honors Their Word

I am befuddled, perplexed and confused and here’s why.

Recently one of the air conditioning units in my home has been in need of a part. It runs, thank goodness as summer sets in here in South Florida, but the part needs to be replaced and I am now on my fourth air conditioning company.

For various reasons the first 3 flaked out on me. OK, I figured just a not so great run of luck. On to the fourth.

I’d made an appointment for myself AND my next door neighbor, who was in need of replacing a unit, for 9:00 AM. My neighbor was going to show the contractor both of our places. Between the two jobs we’re probably looking at close to $5,000.

At 9:45 I get a call from my neighbor stating he left a message for the guy and was wondering where he was. Had I heard from him? Nope, not a word.

Turns out the guy was still at his office (about an hour away) and he got caught on a phone call but failed to let us know he was going to be late. Never picked up the phone without a prompting.

I just don’t get it. With the economy in the miserable shape it is for most of the population wouldn’t it make sense to bend over backward for any opportunity to do business? I would think so. I would also at least communicate my delay.

Here’s the point. Honor your word. As a network marketer what sets you apart from Do unto others... Norman Rockwelleveryone else? It’s not your company or their products and services. There are plenty of good companies. It’s not your lead generating system because there are a ton of those out there too. It’s not how many you have in your downline because that makes no difference to anyone but you. The only thing that will set you apart is the service you provide for and the honor you show to your prospects, your customers and your downline.

If you say you are going to do something, then do it when you said you would or communicate that is will be delayed. If you promise to be somewhere at a certain time for a specific purpose, be there, on time or communicate that you won’t and make a new promise for arrival. It’s really simple and people appreciate being kept in the loop. Ignore people’s needs, put your needs above theirs and they will ignore you.

This is just common courtesy. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Or, more powerfully stated DON’T do unto others as you would not have them do unto you.

A Healthy Networker Has SMART Goals

Every ship that leaves port or airplane that takes off has a pre-determined plan to reach its destination. It stands to reason, as baseball great Yogi Berra claims. “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”

A business must have a destination and a purpose in mind to be successful. What if a company didn’t know what service or productSet up SMART Goals! it was going to offer? What if they had no idea who they were going to sell to? Without goals a company has no direction. In this respect, as a network marketer in business for yourself, there is no difference between you and any major corporation.

How would you know if you are successful if you didn’t have an objective? Jim Cathcart, a noted professional speaker, once said, “Most people aim at nothing in life and hit it with amazing accuracy.”

A Healthy Networker has written SMART goals; goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Related, and Timely.

Specific – A goal must be specific to have a chance of accomplishment. Answer these six questions to make a goal specific:

    Who: Who is to be included and involved?
    What: What is specifically to be accomplished?
    Where: Pinpoint a setting, location, frame of reference.
    When: Establish a time frame, a date of completion, milestones.
    Which: Identify conditions, limitations, checks and balances.
    Why: Determine the specific reasons, purpose or benefits for undertaking the goal.

Example: A goal would be, “Eat healthy.” But a specific goal could be, “Learn about balancing certain foods and implement a plan to eat healthy within 2 weeks.”

Measurable – A goal must be measurable. It is insufficient to qualify something with more, better or different. The goal must have a measurable component to it, something you can put a number to – how much, how many. Measurability helps keep one on track, reach targeted dates and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Attainable – A goal must be reachable. Setting a goal outside the realm of possibility will only thwart the purpose of setting a goal. Timing is an important component here. Is it physically possible to attain your goal within the allotted time? Consider abilities, skills and financial capacities needed to reach a goal. Are you setting realistic milestones to accomplish the goal without creating undue stress?

Realistic – Does your goal characterize an objective to which you are both willing and able to work? Would your goal demonstrate substantial progress, neither setting the result too high or too low? If you truly believe you can accomplish your goal it is probably realistic.

Timely – Your goal must be rooted within a time frame. Without an ending a goal cannot be completed. Someday is not a time frame as it doesn’t appear anywhere on the calendar. Setting a day to accomplish your task will keep you on track.

Once a goal meets the SMART criteria it has muscle and teeth and you have a far better chance of achieve your desired result.

Let Freedom


Both Lynn and I would like to extend a warm Happy 4th of July holiday wish to all of our American readers!

Two hundred and thirty-six years ago a small group of visionaries stood up against Happy 4th of July!staggering odds to fight for one nation’s freedom. These determined leaders paid the ultimate price for their dream, and in the end they came out victorious and won their nation’s freedom.

They dreamed big. They took action. And they won.

This should sound familiar!

It should because it is just what it takes in any business to be a success – declare and committed to… YOUR FREEDOM!

You can live a life of absolute freedom. Those who have been successful have paid their price for success. They went through the pain and struggle of acquiring new skill sets, applying themselves, and diligently working on their mindset so that they could achieve their freedom.

And they went out and won their freedom.

You can do this. Think of what our forefathers went up against… they were on the battlefields with guns, canons, and knives dying for their dream.

We get to sit in air-conditioned houses and our weapons are computers, the internet, products and services. Not to mention the fact that we don’t have bullets whizzing by our heads with people trying to kill us.

You have no legitimate excuses.

Put this into perspective, and get to work! Within our community you have everything required to win this war.

Be safe this 4th of July, and enjoy it with your friends and family, picnic activities, and the fireworks.

And when you’re watching the fireworks tonight, take a moment to reflect on why you’re walking down this path of entrepreneurship, and why you’re committed to your dream, whatever that may be.

If you’re here in the United States, probably in other countries too, many people died so that YOU could be free to make a choice: pursue greatness or submit to a cubicle for 40 years and die broke. You made the right choice.
