I have a good friend Joy who, like me, had S.O.S. – Shiny Object Syndrome. As entrepreneurs, we have
taken course after course, ordered program after program all to improve ourselves and our businesses. Joy, who surprisingly is not in network marketing, is all about self- development, transformation and personal improvement. As a matter of fact, that’s how we met. Joy is a grant administrator, writer and producer of empowerment products.
I learned an interesting lesson from her that I thought prudent to pass along. She recently spent a lot of money to spend a day with a true product guru, like mid 4 digits kind of money. It was an extremely productive day, lots of self-development and practical tips and techniques for product development, marketing and distribution. She came back from the day all fired up and, as they say, laser focused.
She got busy producing new products.
It’s now been several months and production is moving along smoothly. Along the way other courses and programs have been presented and offered to Joy, tempting courses with great sounding, compelling content. To my amazement she had declined each and every one, and here’s why…
She has not fully implemented the teachings from the product guru and refuses to put another thought into her head until she has been mastered and completely executed what she has been taught. She thinks it’s a good idea to get the full value for the money she spent. I tend to agree with her.
What a wise thing to do – no more courses, no more programs, not another penny spent, until I have put in place what I have already been taught. The only way to do that is to take massive action with what has is already on the table and not to get sidetracked by another shiny object. You know put a cap on S.O.S. – Shiny Object Syndrome.
So many times we find ourselves stressed and stretched to the max. Frustration sets in because we have not taken the time to apply what we’ve already learned. Take heed. This is a great lesson to learn and I am grateful to have a good friend like Joy to have taught it to me.
